How To Download Skins in Minecraft: Pocket Edition

Skins are a way to show to people how we look in Minecraft. Do you want to look cool in front of your friends with your awesome skin? Or become popular in a server with a colorful skin? In this article, we'll walk you through every step of the process of installing skins in Minecraft: Pocket Edition.

Download From The Internet

This is the most common way players download and apply their skins. Players from around the world have created cool and unique skins that you can download for free and apply to your character.

  1. Visit a Minecraft skins site such as minecraftskins.com or novaskin.me and find a skin you like. All of the skins on these sites are free, so feel free to choose or search whatever skin you want.

  2. Then, click on the skin and tap on the download button for a skin you want to use. The skin will be downloaded to the “Download” folder on your device.

  3. Open your Minecraft: Pocket Edition application. There’s a “Dressing Room” button below your character. Tapping it will open up a skin menu. The top part of the menu shows you the default and recent skins, while the bottom part shows you the Minecraft-approved skins you can purchase.

  4. You will see an “Edit Character” button under the default Steve skin. Then, tap the second tab in the Classic Skins menu. Under the “Owned” button, tap on the empty skin with the text “Import” above it. Tap the “Choose New Skin” button.

  5. A file manager will open up when you tap the button. Don’t worry, it’s safe as Minecraft will not tamper with any of your files. Then, locate the downloaded skin on your “Download” folder. Tap on the skin.

  6. Choose the model that looks best for your skin. Some skins are made for specific models, so make sure you pick the skin that matches with the model you want to use.

  7. Once you selected a model, tap on the ”Confirm Skin” button. Go back to the main menu to see your player model on the right side.

  8. Go to settings and scroll down to the Profile tab. Then, disable the Only Allowed Trusted Skins options. This is a new feature that blocks unapproved skins to enter Minecraft.

  9. Check your skin by creating a new world. Upon entering, pause the game, go to Settings, select Video button and change "Camera Perspective" setting. If you see your skin on your player, then you’ve successfully applied a Minecraft skin! Remember that you can change the skin as many times as you want.

This method is no longer recommended as Mojang is aware that some external skins are inappropriate. In order to combat this, they made an option to only allow trusted skins, meaning skins from the Minecraft Marketplace. If other players want to see your skin, they must have this option disabled in their settings.

Purchase From Minecraft Marketplace

The easiest way to apply skins in Minecraft: Pocket Edition is to open the Minecraft Marketplace and check out the available skins for purchase. The advantage that Minecraft Marketplace has apart from simply downloading free skins is that not only they are safe and approved by Mojang, they are professionally made by skin artists and easy to apply. You can also apply skins that are approved by your favorite Minecraft YouTubers and streamers!

  1. Open your Minecraft: Pocket Edition application. Tap on the “Marketplace” button and it will open up an assortment of Minecraft-approved contents.

  2. Tap on the “Skin Packs” button to open up the available skin packs for sale. Luckily, these skin packs contain multiple skins, so you will never get bored of just using one!

  3. Choose the skin pack you want. Make sure you have enough Minecoins before purchasing.

  4. Once you purchased the skin pack, you can equip any of the skins available from the skin pack! Not only is this an easier method, it greatly helps the skin pack creators!

Here are some cool skin packs you can check out, featuring awesome Minecraft YouTubers such as PrestonPlayz, UnspeakableGaming, and BriannaPlayz!

Create A Character

If you don’t want to use premade skins, you can create one yourself! Mojang has made it easier for players to make their own skins.

  1. Open your Minecraft: Pocket Edition application and tap on the “Dressing Room” button below your character.

  2. You can either edit the current default Steve skin, or create a new skin. In this case, we will choose to create a new character. Tap on the right or left arrow and go to the grayscale skin. Then, tap the “Create Character” button.

  3. The character creator menu is now open for you to explore. The first tab shows you the body and style section. The second tab shows you the owned, get more and realms plus section. The third tab opens up an emote menu. The fourth and last tab is the cape section.

  4. Let’s head to the first tab where you can edit your body and style. We’ll be checking out the “Body” menu first. Here, you can edit your hair, eyes, mouth, facial hair, arms, legs, and even size. Open the “Body” menu and tap on “Base.”

  5. This menu opens up a selection of skins for your base character. You can also choose the color of the base by clicking on the “Color” button. A few base skins can only be unlocked after completing an achievement.

  6. Once you’re happy with your base, tap the “Equip” button and head back to the character creation menu.

  7. Now let’s check out the “Style” menu, where you can change or add your top (shirt), bottom (pants), outerwear, headwear, gloves, footwear, face item, and back item. Tap the “Top” button.

  8. You change what your character is wearing in this menu. Most of the tops are free, but you can purchase custom-made tops from the Marketplace.

  9. Once you’ve chosen a top you like, tap the “Equip” button and head back to the character creation menu.

  10. Create your character however you like. The only thing stopping you is your imagination. When you’re done, go back to the dressing room menu. Don’t worry, you can always edit your character again whenever you like. The skin is automatically selected when you go back to the Minecraft menu. You can have up to 5 custom skins.
